Folks, when it comes to finding the perfect spread for your toast, muffin, or dinner roll, you can’t go wrong with butter. But what butter should you make? What butter is best? Phillip Wiglesworth has a simple recipe for cinnamon butter, perfect for those still learning to experiment comfortably with their cooking. This recipe is also perfect for new chefs, and it goes well on so many things.
How to make the butter
Making cinnamon butter is super easy! You only need five ingredients to make it: butter, honey, confectioner’s sugar, and cinnamon. Depending on your personal taste, you can change the amount of honey, sugar, and spices. You also have the option of changing the kind of butter and spices you use. One of Phillip Wiglesworth’s best tips when it comes to making spiced butters: purchase the best quality you can afford. Phillip recommends Kerrygold Irish butter – so far it’s given the best results. As an experimenter, Phillip loves to change the spices he uses in the butter every now and then. His favorite swap (and one he still uses frequently) is subbing pumpkin pie spice, which he makes himself, for the cinnamon.
How to store the butter
Once you’ve made the butter, you can store it at room temperature for a couple days. This keeps the butter nice and soft and easy for spreading. If you still have butter left after a couple days, you can store the rest in the refrigerator. Once in the refrigerator, it will keep for about a month. You can also freeze it for up to 6 months.
This “cinnamon” honey butter tastes amazing on fresh dinner rolls, biscuits, or muffins. It also tastes phenomenal on a bagel or piece of toast in the morning.

This sweet butter is so easy to make! It tastes great on biscuits or rolls with dinner, and also goes well with bagels and toast in the morning!
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon*
-
In a medium bowl, combine butter, confectioner's sugar, honey, and cinnamon. Beat until light and fluffy. Then serve with fresh biscuits or dinner rolls.
*Instead of cinnamon, try pumpkin pie spice! It deepens the flavor profile and gives the butter a soft sweetness.
You can also sub out the cinnamon for other ingredients that fit your tastes, like lemon or orange zest. Experiment to see what tastes best to you!
